| The year in music |
Fowler Jones commented on a previous entry: "Please post the playlist from your CD. I downloaded Snow this morning and look forward to mining more gems! "
Thanks for your interest! Here it is:
The Willis: "Believe in Stereo" (BATHTUB.LIGHTBULB.HEARTATTACK) The Cairo Gang: "Me and You" (THE CAIRO GANG) Beck: "No Complaints" (THE INFORMATION) Spottiswoode & McMahon: "How I Miss My Baby So (Don't Lose That Girl)" (S&M) Tris McCall: "The Werewolf of Breton Woods" (I'M ASSUMING YOU'RE ALL IN BANDS) The Raconteurs: "Hands" (BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS) Chris Church: "Cousteau and the Muted Skoal" (YOUR SUN IS ABOUT TO SHINE) Dixie Chicks: "The Long Way Around" (TAKING THE LONG WAY) Pernice Brothers: "Cruelty to Animals" (LIVE A LITTLE) Robyn Hitchcock: "'Cause It's Love (Saint Parallelogram)" (OLE! TARANTULA) Grandaddy: "Jeez Louise" (JUST LIKE THE FAMBLY CAT) Hem: "Not California" (FUNNEL CLOUD) Jose Gonzalez: "Hand on Your Heart" (STAY IN THE SHADE) Gnarls Barkley: "Crazy" (ST. ELSEWHERE) Weird Al Yankovic: "Pancreas" (STRAIGHT OUTTA LYNWOOD) Christina Aguilera: "Ain't No Other Man" (BACK TO BASICS) Chris Brown: "I Won't Ask Why" (NOW THAT YOU'RE FED) The Bye Bye Blackbirds: "In Every Season" (HONEYMOON) J. DiMenna: "Prayer Flag" (AWKWARD BUILDINGS) Morrissey: "You Have Killed Me" (RINGLEADER OF THE TORMENTORS)
Keep in mind that our year-end CD is a collaboration between two people who, despite the fact that they met on a music-focused mailing list, don't have that much in common when it comes to favorite bands & songs. I argued bitterly against including that Christina Aguilera song, but Joe wouldn't relent, and since he's the one who actually sequences and burns the CDs, I gave up. I can't stand the over-the-top, vibrato-laden singing style every female pop artist seems to use today. I wish more of them would emulate Keely Smith instead of Mariah Carey. Yes, I'm old.
If you have an eMusic subscription, which you totally should because it's a great deal for anyone into indie music, you can download most of my picks. I particularly recommend Jose Gonzalez, J. DiMenna and Chris Brown, which were my fave musical discoveries of the year. (For those of you who prefer buying an old-fashioned round object instead of digital files, 125 Records will be selling Chris Brown's CD shortly.) The other ones I selected: Beck, Spottiswoode, Tris McCall, the Raconteurs, Pernice Bros., and Grandaddy. I'm surprised to say that I kind of like the Dixie Chicks album, and the documentary about them ("Shut Up and Sing") is really good. |

Thanks for the play list and when you have time, after the new year perhaps and if you haven't done so already, post your lists from previous years. I'd be most obliged.
You and Mr. 125 should grant each other veto rights on one song from each other's playlist. That should crib the cringe factor in the couples annual CD, although bravo for producing such an animal, my Mrs. and I are much farther apart.
