Copycats
It all started with Freakonomics:

Why did the book sell so well? It must have been because it featured an image of food underneath bold text on a stark white background. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner sure have been flattered a lot lately. Every time I go into a bookstore, I see another book that looks exactly like Freakonomics.

Also the title/author font color has to mimic the color of the food depicted. Moveable Feasts missed that particular subtlety. None of those reds is nearly as eye-catching as are orange & Granny Smith.

Also... all these books about happiness! Andy just checked out another, The Happiness Myth, the cover of which features a slight variation on the Freakonomics copycat effect, with the food cleverly arranged above the title.

What makes the Freakonomics so interesting is the visual pun of comparing apples and oranges. The rest of those are just bad rip-offs. But what a bunch.
