The Blogocalypse
I am visiting Florida, and for whatever reason, I never seem to blog here. There isn't much to write about -- it's kind of a boring place, but pleasantly boring, if you know what I mean. You don't have the urgent sense, as you do in, say, San Francisco or Stockholm, that you could (should!) be choosing between 57 different fascinating and enriching cultural activities that are going on simultaneously. Last night, we went to see a community theater production of "Kiss Me Kate." Jerry Seinfeld is doing some shows here later this month. I thought Cirque du Soleil was in town, but it turned out to be a rival company with a name that just sounds kind of like Cirque du Soleil. "Milk" just opened here on Friday, two months after its San Francisco premiere.

St. Petersburg bills itself as "paradise," and when the weather's nice -- which it definitely was not my first few days here -- you believe it. Local businesses have names like Scrapbooking in Paradise, Portraits in Paradise, Paradise Fitness and Paws Inn Paradise (that one's a kennel).

I wanted to spend two weeks here this year, because I felt that I was getting dangerously stressed out at home, and thought the change of pace would do me good. I am getting some work done here, but not too much work. (If anybody's reading this who is waiting for me to do something, I promise I'll get to it soon.)

Besides not writing blogs, I haven't been reading them much, either, aside from a quick peek here & there. I do enjoy keeping up with my friends' blogs, and I usually make an effort to read my clients' blogs, too. But it can be a grind. Eventually, maybe everyone will just migrate to Facebook, which I refuse to join, and I will suddenly find myself with a lot more free time.

After living in Florida three times, I finally escaped for good. My parents live in Tarpon Springs and I dread going back. Enjoy the beach.
