The people who regularly read this blog—by which I mean my friend Vallery and my parents—sometimes ask me, “Hey Sue, why don’t you update your blog more frequently?” Well, what if I guaranteed that I’d be writing a new blog post every week? That’s the experiment I’m attempting over at saturdayreader.net. I started that blog on Jan. 2, but I’m only making it public on this blog now, so head on over there and you can read four posts!
Why am I not just running the book reviews on this blog? Because The Conical Glass sounds like I should be reviewing barware (“these slanted shot glasses are just the thing when you want to convince your guests that they’re way drunker than they actually are!”). In case any author was going to quote me, I wanted to come up with a classy-sounding name that appeared to be a much larger, more significant publication; and the day of the week in the title will let people know when they can expect a new post. My initial idea was to call it the Saturday Review, but it turns out that somebody already used that title.
So far, my first three reviews have gotten exposure through the authors re-Tweeting the link, but my fourth review is of a book written by somebody who’s been dead for a few decades. Though apparently she’s also on Twitter. My author clients who hate the obligation to use social media will not be happy to know that death is no excuse to stop Tweeting.
