We list below a number of favorite restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula. These have come well recommended from our local friends and family, and in a few instances, have been ones we have very much enjoyed ourselves. Monterey: Abalonetti: On Fisherman's Wharf. Italian seafood, specializing in calamari; we have always enjoyed the meals here. Open daily from 11 AM - 9 PM. Café Fina: On Fisherman's Wharf. Seafood/Italian. Entree prices range from $14.50-$24.95. Cibo Ristorante Italiano: 301 Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey. Open for dinner from 5-10 PM. Entrees range from $15-$28. Crown and Anchor: 150 West Franklin St., between Calle Principal and Tyler St. English pub; good food served daily from 11 AM to midnight. Domenico's: On Fisherman's Wharf. Seafood; felt to be outstanding, and a favorite of the reviewer. Open daily from 11 AM - 9 PM. Dinner entrees range from $19-$30. Epsilon: 422 Tyler St., at the corner of Pearl Street. Greek. Open for lunch on weekdays, dinner Tues.-Sun. Fresh Cream: 100C Heritage Harbor, 99 Pacific Street, Monterey. Award-winning French cuisine. Open daily from 5:30-10 PM. Entrees average $30. Indian Summer: 220 Olivier St., at the corner of Del Monte Street, in downtown Monterey. Indian cuisine. Open for lunch and dinner. Massaro & Santos: 32 Cannery Row, close to downtown Monterey. Italian. Open Tues.-Sun. for lunch and dinner. Entrees range from $13-$21. Montrio: 414 Calle Principal, Monterey. Excellent American bistro. Open Mon.-Sat. for lunch and dinner, and Sun. from 5-10 PM. Most entrees in the $20 range. Peter B's Brewpub: 2 Portola Plaza (on the alley behind the DoubleTree). Great food; 10 micro-beers brewed on the premises. Open 7 days. Other nearby restaurants: Benihana (136 Olivier); Cabos Wild Mexican (Wharf #1, Fisherman's Wharf); Fisherman's Grotto (Old Wharf); Goomba's (469 Alvarado); India's Clay Oven (150 Del Monte Avenue); Jamba Juice (398 Alvarado); Jugem Japanese (409 Alvarado); Lallapalooza (474 Alvarado); The Mucky Duck (479 Alvarado); Papa Chanos (462 Alvarado); Pino's Italian Café (211 Alvarado); Puerto Mexico (Wharf #1, Fisherman's Wharf); Rappa's (at the end of Wharf #1, Fisherman's Wharf); Rosine's (434 Alvarado); Round Table Pizza (375 Alvarado). Carmel: Bahama Billy's Island Steakhouse: 3690 The Barnyard, Carmel. Described as "wonderfully unique." Open daily for lunch and dinner. Flying Fish Grill: East side of Mission between Ocean & 7th, Carmel. Unique seafood restaurant with an Asian accent. A favorite of our reviewer. Open daily from 5-9:30 PM. The Gem: On the east side of San Carlos between Ocean and 7th, Carmel. Continental. Open daily except Wednesdays for dinner. Little Napoli: Dolores between Ocean & 7th, Carmel. Italian country cooking; considered "charming." Robata Grill and Sake Bar: 3658 The Barnyard, Carmel. Japanese. Open daily for dinner. Pacific Grove: Fandango: 223 17th Street, Pacific Grove. Mediterranean & European Style cuisine. Our reviewer says, "Great!" Open daily for lunch and dinner. Petra: 477 Lighthouse Avenue, Pacific Grove. Middle Eastern/Mediterranean.
